New Health Canada Survey on Cannabis

An important new survey on the use of cannabis has been released by Health Canada. Together with other national surveys, this will provide benchmarks for monitoring and evaluation of new regulatory approaches on a going forward basis.

Statistics Canada has similarly established benchmarks for monitoring Canada’s cannabis market, and pricing.

As the Senate continues it’s consideration of Bill C-45 on cannabis reform we know more than we ever have about the easy availability, widespread use, demonstrated harms, and some emerging benefits of cannabis in Canada.

The decades-long effort to tackle cannabis by criminalizing its possession has obviously not worked. It’s time for an approach based on public health and harm reduction.
