MEDIA ADVISORY: Senators to tour licensed cannabis production facility
A licensed cannabis production facility in Smiths Falls, Ont., is opening its doors to Senators as they study a bill that sets the framework for legalizing and regulating cannabis in Canada.
The tour will give members of the Upper Chamber an opportunity to view how the product is grown in commercial quantities and ask detailed questions to Canopy Growth Corporation representatives.
Debate on Bill C-45, the proposed Cannabis Act, began in the Senate last November with Senator Tony Dean as its sponsor.
Members of the media are invited to interview Senators inside the Canopy Growth Corporation facility after their tour.
Date: Monday, February 12, 2018
Time: 3:30 p.m. (Members of the media are asked to arrive no later than 3:15 p.m.).
Location: 1 Hershey Drive, Smiths Falls, Ont.
Please note that, because of space limitations, media cannot be accommodated on the tour with the Senators, but may arrange for their own tour with Canopy Growth on the same day or at another date.
Members of the media will be able to ask questions to Senators and Canopy Growth representatives after the tour, and have an opportunity to take photographs. Media attending are asked to dress comfortably and to be prepared to put on a laboratory coat and protective coverings over their footwear.
Canopy Growth Corporation’s Smiths Falls facility includes half a million square feet of industrial space with 168,000 square feet currently licensed for production. To date, CGC has entered into supply agreements with three provincial governments to provide cannabis products for their non-medical markets. The firm is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX:WEED).
